Dublin 2012

Dear all

Tee-time options now available so it's decision time. There isn't much option about Sunday and Monday as you will see, but choices to be made regarding Friday and Saturday with respect to overall costs. As always, we go with the majority.

OPTIONS

Fri 4th May The Island at 2.10pm or Portmarnock Old at 2.30pm

Sat 5th May Seapoint at 10.40am or The European at 11am

Sun 6th May Royal Dublin at 10.30am

Mon 7th May Portmarnock Hotel Links at 11am

Combinations and costs;

Option A Portmarnock Old, The European, Royal Dublin and Portmarnock Hotel links
960 euros

Option B The Island, Seapoint, Royal Dublin and Portmarnock Hotel links
740 euros

Option C Portmarnock Old, Seapoint, Royal Dublin and Portmarnock Hotel Links
795 euros

Option D The Island, The European, Royal Dublin and Portmarnock Hotel Links
880 euros

Prices include hotel (Grand Malahide) and transfers to and from airport and from hotel to golf and back each day. Single room supplement 180 euros to be split seven ways as per usual, contested over 3 rounds, Queensberry rules and may the best man win.

Might be a little cheaper to hire transport ourselves (thanks for all your help with that one Nigel) if there are strong feelings on the subject.

Preferences as soon as possible please to firm up the booking.

  1. I vote for option A.

    Does the cost include flights?

  2. Adrian, The European is a long way south. If it is worth it (appreciate one of the top 100 golf courses and it does look stunning) then Option A. Otherwise Option D - but quite frankly happy to go with whatever the majority decide.

  3. For a Few Dollars More....

For me this is mostly about the quality of the golf and the four courses in Option A are arguably the best in the area. They all look stunning! The European, specifically just looks like a course I want to be able to say I've played! ...so A gets my first vote. It is expensive though, so if the debate is around cost, then I think C.

  4. I am happy to go with the flow, although I would probably also opt for C as the European requires a lot of driving and I find 1500 Euros (including meals etc.) somewhat expensive for a long weekend in Ireland.
N.B there are Mercedes Minivans (seating 9) for the cost of ca. 400 GBP for four days(see: https://www.arguscarhire.com). How does that compare to taking taxis?

  5. sitting here in hotel room having twisted knee skiing.

Don't feel we can go to Dublin without doing Portmarnock old and Royal Dublin, so rules out B and D

The island is better course than seapoint( older and with tradition), so would favour that if it is possible to do in option C.

If not would then favour option A
