I have an idea to share with you on which I would welcome your thoughts.
I was talking to a Burhill member yesterday who, like us, organises a regular annual golfing tour. They have also been confronted with the issue of Tour Handicaps and first opted for a 2 stroke cut for the day winner, 1 for second etc. much as we did in the early JLC years.
This didn't work for the same reason as us: winner on first day unreasonably punished for playing well.
They have instead opted for a system of Jokers, which works as follows:
- After each round, everyone's score is compared to the winner's
- For every 3 points difference, all who didn't win are awarded a Joker up to a max of three (for example, if winning score is 34 and other players had 32, 31, 27 and 18, then these would be awarded 0, 1, 2 and 3 respectively)
- These Jokers are only valid for the next day's play
- A player in possession of a Joker may choose to use it on any hole, before teeing off, and his Stableford points on that hole will be doubled.
Any thoughts anyone?
