The final countdown begins...
...and Colin is to be congratulated for his sterling efforts at the weekend to maximise his JLC chances, cunningly making sure that his 12.4 handicap increase by a small, but critical, 0.1 increment: that's 3 points in the bag...
I hope everyone else was getting some last minute practice in: there is only one weekend left to hone those bodies....
A weekend which sees a fun event at Burhill next SATURDAY, the Captain's Charity team event. According to the sign-up sheets, we have a JLC Tour team entered (NB, CJ, RM and RS): this Blog wishes them all well!

Thursday p.m. .... any takers?
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me! I may wander up earlier in the week also.
ReplyDeletegreetings from Washington
ReplyDeleteHappy playing Saturday. Rolf , can you scrub me off on Sunday?
Playing this one tommorow afternoon:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.westfieldsgolf.com/sites/courses/supersite.asp?id=988&page=56507
Please note that there was a typo in the original posting: the Team event is on the SATURDAY (0830 Shotgun start, followed by lunch).
ReplyDeleteThere is also a Stableford on the SUNDAY, for which Rolf has been kind enough to book us in to play as well (at 11:00ish?).
I'm expecting to have to go to Cornwall for a funeral sometime this week, but assuming this is not Thursday, I will be up for some twilight golf!
ReplyDeleteI shall be looking forward to testing out my new handicap of 13, which went up on Saturday, giving me 4 more shots across JLC! (tries not to sound pleased). As Martin will testify (me having paid for his comp entry fee), this was not a cynical attempt on my part at gamesmanship just before the big annual tournament (yeah, right), but was in fact a legitimate attempt at improving my handicap that went off course at a time in the season coincidental in its advantageous approximation to the JLC Cup (honest).
PS. I will now order the official JLC handicap certificates from Pip, on behalf of us all! J
ReplyDeleteGood lad. Do I sense a growing excitement here?! I have 3 more lessons before the big weekend. I think I need to focus on just 3 aspects to perfect my game - so that works out well. Lesson 1) How to drive the ball onto the fairway (that's the closely mown area, normally in a direct line between the tee and the green). Lesson 2) Bunker play - how to get the ball out of the bunker and onto the green, and closer to the hole, in just one shot 3) How to putt.
ReplyDeleteWorried?
Nigel, I think that should go some way to ensuring a good campaign if it can show quick progress, but the list in incomplete.
ReplyDeleteFor effective preparation, practice is also required in the following areas: 4) hangover recover induced by spiked drinks at evening sessions, 5) mental toughness to counter rival on-course banter and gamesmanship from fellow competitors, and 6) physical ability to survive bouts of sustained laughter induced by spontaneous evening 'sing-alongs' that might be instigated by Messrs Morley and/or McNally.
practicing my songs as we banter!
ReplyDeleteIn addition:
Keep that spine angle, Nigel, no hip swaying!
Look at the ball, and hit it straight.
Rolf; co-ordination in colour of clothes , mark your balls and have you got your handicap down yet?
Martin: Have a shave in the morning and wear some sunglasses where we can see you!
Adrian: stop farting and hope shoulder better!
Robert : where are you ? have you played any golf this year?
Colin: you jammy bugger, those 4 shots will make all the difference this year! Dont tel me you didn't plan this!
Anyone seen Rolf? Is he AWOL?
ReplyDeleteRolf who?
ReplyDeleteLast time I saw him was this morning (in the mirrrow).
ReplyDeleteJust came back from rainy Hamburg, to see that JLC preparations / hype is in full swing. It looks like I have some catching up to do. Would be delighted to join you on Thursday. May even try to fit in a few holes today (from 6 p.m. tbc)
Regards,
Rolf
Could join you at 7.45 (after my lesson!)
ReplyDeleteDr Scholl, dear Dr Scholl there's no one like our Dr Scholl,
ReplyDeleteHe's broken every human law, he even burns real coal.
His powers of levitation would make a fakir stare,
And when you reach the scene of crime--Rolf Scholl is never there!
You may seek him in the basement, you may look up in the air--
But I tell you once and once again, the doctor will not be there
with apologies to TS Elliott
I let Fiona take me out for a drive in the countryside yesterday evening. We were going down a quiet country lane when she said, "Shall I do something I've never done in the car before?"
ReplyDeleteI said, "Go on then, bang it into 3rd gear”.
Awesome Robert! You got me re-reading the original (http://www.macavity.org.uk/), but I prefer your version!
ReplyDeleteJust to let you Burhillers amongst us know that Pip has done handicap certificates for us and they will be ready for collection on Thursday evening. I shall hold them and distribute on tour as required.
ReplyDeleteMy handicap is 13, by the way! :-)
Nigel,
ReplyDeletei thought she was going to do something else down the country lane?
Played yesterday!
ReplyDelete34 points playing of 24 , so not too bad! great course!
Now now.
ReplyDeleteOff 24 now. That's more like it.
So, guys, tonight? Who's about. Nigel and I are available to start at 6.00. Martin - what time can you get there? Any others joining us and if so at what time?
ReplyDeleteMartin has said he lands at 4 so should be there for 6. Rolf?
ReplyDeleteI'll be there!
