Dear all,
Greetings from La Quinta, where I
will be spending the next few weeks thinking about future JLC venues and other
hardships in life.
As regards timing I suggest we
opt for the first bank holiday weekend (4-6 May). (It is highly likely that I
will not be able to make the second bank holiday weekend and any other option
would entail taking a second day off, which I assume nobody wants.) From a
weather perspective both Berlin and Spain appear viable around that time of the
year.
I look forward to any comments
you may have and would otherwise suggest that we meet for a curry some time during the first
two weeks of September. Please let me know your availability.
Kind regards,
Rolf
Very nice it looks too, Rolf!
ReplyDeleteFirst weekend in May is good for me.
First weekend in may then!

Riolf - with the sun shining today, thoughts inevitably turn to matters golfing:L could you please share a latest itinerary for us as I need to do some planning... Thanks, Martin
ReplyDeleteDear all,
ReplyDeleteI am delighted to report that everything's well on target with respect to our JLC trip. Flights, hotel and tee-times are all booked for everybody (except for Nigel, who does not want to come). The only thing that has changed since my previous e-mails is the tee time on the first day, which I have moved by 1/2 hour (to 3.30 p.m.) to allow for the later arrival time of the BA flight (landing at 11.30 a.m.) I will send you an updated itinerary over the next few days.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a JLC Prep-Jolly (e.g. at Pyrford) to discuss tour handicaps and other important matters. I will be in Spain from Wednesday for a week and the weekends thereafter are a bit busy. Sat 6 April or Sun 13 April would, however, work for well for me, it there is any interest.
Kind regards,
Rolf
Sounds great.
ReplyDeleteCan do SAT 13th April, but not Sunday nor 6th
Can't do 13/14 April but could do 6th
ReplyDeleteThis may be a problem thn: as things stand I could do p.m. on 6th but am on duty in the morning.
ReplyDeleteother dates I could potentially offer:
ReplyDeleteSun 17 March
Sat 20 April
Sun 21 April
Can do 17 mar or 20 April but on call both those days
ReplyDeleteHi everybody!
ReplyDeleteCan we settle for 20 April then? Please confirm your availability.
Regards,
Rolf
What time?
ReplyDeleteI'm reasonably easy, 9 a.m. or 2 p.m. ?
ReplyDeleteNeed to check: mother's birthday...
ReplyDeleteRolf
ReplyDeleteConfused here ! Is 20 April to meet to discuss things , play golf or both?
As mentioned on call that weekend and have operating list in morning so golf not really an option that day
would be for both; main topic will be your handicap...
ReplyDeleteEXCELLENT NEWS: NIGEL CONFIRMED HIS BOOKING TODAY, HOORAY!!!
ReplyDeleteAbout time too!
ReplyDeleteBugger...
ReplyDeleteSpent all night redoing THE spreadsheet to cope with only 6 players this time around....
Welcome aboard Nigel!

P.S. Any one else fancy taking a year off?
Dear all,
ReplyDeleteNow that we are all complete, let me kick off our mental preparation phase by proposing the following OFFICIAL TOUR HANDICAPS JLCC 2013:
• Colin: 13
• Adrian: 18
• Nigel: 18
• Rolf: 18
• Martin: 19 (as per special request and long-term statistical regression analysis)
• Roland: 21
• Robert: 28
The handicaps will be confirmed at a JLCC Prep Jolly in April, if we can find a date. (Failing that the organizer will exercise his right to make an executive decision).
Regards,
Rolf
Dear all,
ReplyDeleteWith the weather behaving the way it did over the last three months it has never been more difficult to predict the outcome of this year’s JLCC. A little bird tells me that Roland is in top form again and ready to grab the cup, so with less than 4 weeks to go (the countdown on this blog seems to be aiming for a different event) it is time to start practicing!
I suggest that we meet again one more time to discuss handicaps, restaurants and any outstanding administrative questions. From my perspective a Pre-JLC-Jolly (golf & drinks) would still work on the weekend of 20/21 April. If that’s not possible because of people’s busy weekend schedules I suggest that we settle for a pub evening at the Plough (Station Road in Cobham) instead, e.g. on Friday 19 April, 8 p.m. Please let me have your thoughts.
Meanwhile I wish Robert all the best for his Birthday! As a new “Veteran” he will be entitled to play off the yellow tees in Berlin.
Best regards,
Rolf
Rolf - good to get together. Regret that I am fully booked for that weekend. Pub evening sounds good. Cannot do 19/4 though as am off to see Book of Mormon...
ReplyDeletewhat about Thu 18th, Mon 22nd or Fri 26th?
ReplyDeleteAll of those good for me!
ReplyDeleteAnd me.
ReplyDeleteCan only do Monday 22nd that I can be sure about
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Robert !
ReplyDeleteAs per Roland's comment: Can Colin, Adrian and Robert do Monday 22nd? Please let us know, so that we can fix it!
ReplyDeleteMonday 22nd April 8 p.m. has been confirmed by everybody. Venue: Old Plough in Station Road Cobham
ReplyDeleteI assume it's for a beer, not food.
ReplyDeleteIn my diary!
ReplyDeleteonly beer, drugs and rockn' roll (the usual stuff)
ReplyDeleteGentlemen,
ReplyDeletecan we make it 8.30 pm?
Amongst the retired, part time workers, semi professional golfers etc, adrian and i have to do 2 jobs and i can't get there till 8.30pm
Cheers
Fine by me, old man!
ReplyDeleteHave you put your application in for the Vets team yet??
Difficult to deny you anything today:
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROLAND!
Having said that, perhaps we can sill meet at 8 and you can pay the second round. We can pre-discuss the tour handicaps in the meantime ;-)
Many thanks for wishes !
ReplyDeleteNo tour handicap discussion
Food for Thought (or vice versa):
ReplyDeleteI had a first look at the restaurant situation for our trip. The following are my proposals:
1st night: one of the resort's three restaurants (http://resort.a-rosa.de/english/scharmuetzelsee/fine-food/)
• Villa am See
• Market Restaurant
• Greenside
2nd night: Ad hoc selection of restaurant or pub after cultural stroll through Berlin City Centre
3rd night: "19hundert" (http://www.landhaus-alte-eichen.de/en/restaurants/index.html;
Michelin coment: "The seafront location is equally impressive in summer and winter! The restaurant has a wonderful terrace, as well as a cosy conservatory including a wine bar with a great view."

I just realise: It should spell "Asparagus"
ReplyDeleteHappy to leave it your good haenden!
ReplyDeleteSauerkraut and Bratwurst for everybody then...
ReplyDeleteDear all,
ReplyDelete1) Just to confirm that we are meeting at the Old Plough on Monday at 8 p.m., and await our medical buddies, who will arrive at 8.30 p.m.
2) I will already be in Berlin on business on Thursday/Friday 2nd and 3rd May, and will not be on the same flight out on Saturday 4th May, but await you at Berlin Tegel airport, with the keys for our car (Mercedes Vito) already collected, which should save us some time. I need a volunteer to do the handholding on departure on the London side. Alternatively, I am happy to order special assistance for all of you, so you get into the plane ok.
Regards,
Rolf
I just heard from Roland that everybody's preference is to meet at the Old Plough at 8.30 p.m. on Monday. That's fine with me as well. See you there!
ReplyDeleteThe following restaurant in Central Berlin was recommended to me as being very trendy at the moment (it fits in well with our cultural itinerary). Any objections?

Nigel will be responsible for the after dinner night life programme that day.
